Yesterday was a big day around here. It’s been cloudy and rainy and if it wasn’t raining in the past week, it was drizzling. It was yucky, plain and simple. But then something happened – the sun came out. It was a bright, beautiful orb I barely recognized, and I know I wasn’t alone because my Twitter and Facebook feeds were filled with people just as surprised as I was about the suddenly bright and shiny October sky. I ran outside of my office building and stood in the warm sunshine for a few minutes to soak up the vitamin D I’d been lacking for so long. I felt the light breeze against my face and neck and watched the golden leaves fall to the ground around me with a soft rustle. It was everything I love about fall – warm, but dry air and a cool, soft breeze. My mood instantly boosted, and I hopped in the car to drive home, where Jay and I promptly dug into the brownies I’d made the day before with some delicious natural vanilla ice cream. An ode to summer, a last goodbye and my delicious moment with my family. Continue reading
Pumpkin spiced everything is everywhere. That is the sentence that sums up fall so far, at least in the world of food. Pumpkin bagels, pumpkin coffee, pumpkin cream cheese and pumpkin whipped mocha java yadda yadda are on every billboard, store front and blog. I love pumpkin as much as the next food blogger, but I have my limits. And mostly, that limit is drawn where 100% real pure pumpkin puree becomes an odd chemical concoction that may or may not have stemmed from a lab mistake. I like to roast my own pumpkin (more on that soon), but if I don’t have time for that, I’ll buy the 100% pumpkin puree that comes in a can. Please note the difference between pumpkin pie filling and pure pumpkin puree. Continue reading
I haven’t gotten a lot of sleep lately. Even though I fell asleep at 8:20 pm last night, I only got 7 hours, 7 minutes of actual sleep. Crazy, right? I have a thing I wear that tracks my steps, my sleep and my activity levels. Highly interesting and it explains why I’m so tired sometimes! Where’s my coffee?
Anyway, today is Thursday, August 1st. Thirsty Thursdays? Maybe. You should probably go home after work and have a cocktail. You should probably have ice cream. You worked hard this week.
You should probably combine them into the Best Thing Ever and just make a milkshake again like we did last time.
Wait, what’s that? You are out of ice cream? You don’t have a cute milkshake glass in which to enjoy magical ice cream moments? Continue reading
I don’t know about you, but I love milkshakes. There’s something comforting about that first sip that barely comes through your straw because it’s so thick and creamy; the mixed ice cream brings you right back to your childhood. But that childhood is long gone for most of us, replaced by work, responsibilities and hopefully a happy hour or two. I thought, “how can I combine the carefree memories from childhood with the perks of being an adult?”
(Drumroll, please…) Continue reading
